Homefront Monkey Cage

Privately built

This item is an example of a one-of-a-kind homefront item and was manufactured by an individual during wartime. Presumably the individual took a monkey in this cage to war bond rallies and in doing so, encouraged the purchase of bonds. Was the monkey dressed as Uncle Sam to really make a splash remains speculation. It is made of wood with a wire mesh screen and measures 17"L x 16"W x 12"D. A leather shoulder strap is bolted to the body. This is a perfect example of the difficulty of assessing the values of one-of-a-kind items. The value is plain and simply what the market will bear. It is without question, a museum piece.

Estimated value: $ 1000.00 +
