Once WWII ended, there was still much unfinished business. War debt had to be repaid. War criminals needed to be prosecuted. The economy needed to be shifted back to a peacetime economy. Japan had to be occupied and rebuilt. Germany was divided into quarters. And those who served and survived needed to reassimilate into their families and society. Those that died were mourned and remembered. There are collectors who specialize in items made in the postwar period. Most of these items don't have the patriotic fervor that those war period items do but nonetheless reflect the dynamic shift from wartime America to peacetime America; from slumbering ally to global superpower. There is a fair diversity in these postwar items and while their appreciation requires perhaps a more cerebral approach than wartime items, they create a fantastic collection once assembled.
